The Carsey-Wolf Center is sponsoring an event featuring a screening of Disney's animated film Encanto. The film tells the story of the family Madrigal, a multigenerational family blessed with magical powers generated by their enchanted home. This film focuses on protagonist Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz), who discovers that her family is secretly losing their powers and in finding the source of their magical depletion uncovers a complicated family history. Centered on themes of intergenerational trauma, healing, and told through a magical realist narrative, Encanto has won the Best Animated Feature award at the Academy Awards and includes a soundtrack composed by Lin Manuel-Miranda.

Following the screening, there will be a conversation between Yvett Merino, the producer of Encanto and UCSB alumnus, and moderator Professor D. Ines Casillas.
