The Department of Chicana and CHicano Studies Annual Research Symposium is scheduled on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

The event will feature presentations Undergraduate Awards and presentations from graduating Doctoral and Undergraduate Honors Candidates. We are proud of your accomplishments and wish you the best moving forward.

The Hungry Woman Staged Reading + Symposium

The year 2019 celebrates the 50th anniversary of Chicano Studies. The tenets of that original movement for a sovereign education grew into what are now thriving Chicana[x]/Latina[x] programs throughout the country. In recognition of the 50th, the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center, Office of the Dean of Humanities, Las Maestras Center for Xicana[x] Indigenous Thought, Art and Social Practice, the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies and the Multicultural Center have collaborated to host a full afternoon’s discussion and performative presentations in conversation with the The Hungry Woman. Presenters include visiting and UCSB scholar-activists-artists and students.

Professor Micaela Diaz Sanchez hosted an Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba workshop with Hector Luis Rivera Ortiz on May 8, 2019. This workshop was held as part of the Chicana/o Studies 156: Afro-Latina/o/x Diasporic Performance course that Professor Diaz-Sanchez taught in Spring 2019.
